CHAPTER 3: A MURDER OF RAVENS
So hopefully in this Chapter we will find out who got shot... I'm hoping LeGrand or Oliver followed Zellner up into the secret room and shot Inch; but you never know.
[ 1,000 points ]
A thief and a murder
Patricia and Adil are in bed together talking. They don't want Inch to find out about their plan. Oooh, we get to play as Miss Mayers now (I'm glad it's not Inch).
They have a conversation. Inch hid the first eye in the Baroness's luggage, they will break in and replace it with a fake, then steal the second in Cairo and Inch will get the blame. In London, the bobby was tipped off by Miss Mayers; but Adil didn't have time to replace it with the fake because of Inch's bomb. They've been double crossing Inch; and no-one else is clever enough to figure it out (except the Constable).
You exit the cabin automatically. Ah, that's who was on the other side of the stairs.
Inventory: Fake jewel
Read the journal to know the story based on Adil and Patricia-Alex's perspective. In the notes section: your real name is Alex and you are very smart. You met Adil in the south of France. He was a waiter, you are the daughter of a wealthy family. But neither of you really what you are. Awww, how romantic.
Enter the cabin; make a cutting remark about Adil being able to sleep anywhere.
Examine the bathroom, and again (Cabin chosen for central location)
Look in the mirror. I am Patricia Mayers. Young, attractive, clueless ;)
Look at Adil, and again (Daddy wasn't pleased when she brought him home... I wonder who Daddy is?)
Examine the hat box. They shopped for "Patricia Mayers", she's playing a part too.
Search the suitcase. She's pretending to be the dumb blond daughter of a wealthy family. You get necklace from her real father. Examine the suitcase again.
Leave the cabin
Examine the poster (at the top of the stairs), and again
Go into the saloon (David Kreutzer is playing the violin; Ms Miller un-subtly leaves with the professor to go up on deck)
Examine the salad tongs. You automatically take salad tongs.
Look at Captain diConti and Mr Kreutzer. Talk to them. Lady W insults him, Captain stops him leaving. Look at them again (tension!).
Talk to Lady Westmacott. (Ew, fake American accent) You have a conversation about prejudice, acting, the journey, and the violinist (he's a cad). Mr Kreutzer is unhappy and storms out, the captain follows. She tells you about her son, he was freeloader too.
Leave the saloon.
Go downstairs
Examine the model ship, and again
Examine the pin board
Look at the magazines. There's something about the exhibition. Look again.
Enter the medical centre
Talk to the Doctor automatically. He doesn't have time to chat, he is acting weirdly.
Examine the door to Legrand's cabin, and again
Go upstairs.
Listen at the door. Inch is arguing with the Baroness who is looking for something. Inch comes out. You automatically exit to the side deck
Look at David Kreutzer. Talk to him. Converse about Lady W (she's a hypocrite; he knows her son and some of her friends). He has a sister. Sadly hard work is not everything; never in the right place at the right time. Now he is empty, even though he seems have the life his father wanted; it's a front for his real life (thievery?). His hands are starting to shake from alcohol. He mentions his father's pistol... but it's gone!
Go to the rear
Examine the bath towel. Take the bath towel.
Examine the deck chair
Look at Captain diConti (he is drunk)
Go to the front
Examine the gangway
Go to the forecastle
Examine the door to the cargo hold
Examine the shuffleboard court
Look at Miss Miller and Professor Lucien. Adil and yourself followed the professor in London, in disguise, but best not interrupt. Shame - he had the jewel on him after all ;)
Go to the side deck
Go upstairs
Examine the door, and again
Examine the flag (by the lifeboat). Take the pole. It is placed by the ventilation shaft.
Examine the ventilation shaft. The thief enters though the ventilation shaft... in a white dress?! Examine again.
Use the pole with... Break the cover open. Nope.
Use the bath towel . Tie the bath towel around the wooden pole. To aid in climbing down.
Use necklace. Unscrew the cover with the penny. Not strong enough.
Use penny . Combine the penny with the salad tongs .
Use improviser screwdriver. Unscrew the cover
Climb into the ventilation shaft
As you watch, the baroness is looking at photos all over the floor. She exclaims "Jakob Aust! Now I've got you!" and leaves.
Examine the mannequin, and again
Look at the photos, and again (black and white photos from the 20s/30s)
Examine the notepad. The baroness wrote something down and took the paper with her.
Search the cupboard
Search the handbag
Examine the luggage
Examine the painting. Ooh, she's an art thief :)
Examine the door
Open the portable cupboard
Examine the glasses
Search the shelf
Search the drawer. Search the other drawer
Examine the bottles, and again
Examine the leather strap. Ah ha!
Explorer
Find the baroness' secret compartment.

[ BONUS: New pictures unlocked ]
Examine the slip - Nefertiti, Guernica, Ad and Buonarroti's Adam. A memory aid. Examine it again.
Examine the door, and again
Examine the mechanism (combination lock). Examine again. Symbols: Dog, cat, bear, rooster, etc: 8 symbols per cylinder. Examine a third time. If you had at least three you could guess the last.
Finish the investigation (twice) to exit
Leave the cabin (by the ventilation shaft). As you try and leave someone comes in and you hide under the bed. White trousers, they do something in the cupboard.
Examine the bed
Examine the cupboard. Is someone else after the eye? What does the Audiotape have to do with it?
Slide the chair under the opening
Leave the cabin
Now we need to find out the symbols. Go downstairs.
Go to the ship
Look at Dr Gebhardt. Talk to him. Ask him about the symbols. Famous bust of Nefertiti, no information. Guernica - crimes of his government? Ad - monogram of Albrecht Dürer, a German artist, wooden engravings, his work appears on German marks. Talk to him again, Buonarroti - no idea.
Go downstairs
Looks at the magazines. Picture of the bust of Nefertiti, 1913 permission to export for Germany, Second World War, Berlin 1956. Berlin... the Berlin bear! Find out where other works of art are located and which animals are associated with those cities. 1 down, 3 to go.
Go upstairs
Go into the saloon
Look at Captain diConti. Talk to him. Ask him about Lady W (Her father re-married someone younger, encouraged to write by her French tutor, in Egypt with her archaeologist husband - who died). Ask about himself (war hero, his body is a curse :(, the ship/ crew doesn't need/ want him). Talk to him again. Guernica - nope. Albrecht Dürer - artist, he lived in Italy for a while, called Alberto Durero in Spain. Buonarroti - Michelangelo B, greatest artist of all time, known by his first name, his famous statue of David, etc, the Sistine chapel ceiling - the creation of Adam - Vatican City, current pope - no animal? But the old pope - heraldic animal was the lion (Pope John XXIII). 2 down, 2 to go - we've got the first and the last.
Look at Baroness von Trebitz, and again.
Talk to Lady Westmacott. Guernica (no luck). Albrecht Dürer - she keeps telling you to look in books! She's no use.
Leave the saloon
Talk to the Doctor. Ask him about the captain, he inadvertently tells you he's a patient.
Go into the cabin (yours)
Talk to Adil. Talk about the man in the cabin, turning on the tape player... nothing playing. Tell him about the secret compartment. He tells you want you've already worked out. Guernica - Spain, city in the Basque region, bombed by the Nazis in the Spanish civil war at the request of General Franco. Picasso immortalised the bombing in his famous painting, maybe in Paris? Alberto Durero - pioneer of wood cuts, favourite motif, himself, his most famous is in the Prado in Madrid. A bear. Again, but why not. You now have 3, could guess the 4th, but lets try and find it. Talk to Adil again, and again.
[ 2,000 points (+1,000) ]
So far we have bear, ? , bear, lion. Surely we can find the 4th.
Leave the cabin.
Try the Doctor again? Ask about the Picasso. Nope.
Go into the saloon
Try Lady W again? Ask about the Picasso. Guernica is currently on display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. New York? Nope, never been, probably an eagle? But wait, that poster in the corridor I keep checking, that has a coat of arms on it.
Leave the saloon.
Examine the poster. There are two beavers posing on the New York city emblem. The final symbol is a beaver.
The combination is bear, beaver, bear, lion (Nefertiti in Berlin, Picasso's Guernica in NY, Ad's portrait in Madrid and Buonarroti's Adam on the Sistine chapel ceiling - the pope). Now to enter the baroness's cabin again.
Enter the side desk. Go upstairs. Climb into the ventilation shaft.
You make a muffled shriek as you enter the cabin you see the Baroness collapsed on the bed with blood everywhere, and hear Miss Miller outside the door. You climb out to encounter Adil, you go converse and then go back in; then Adil is caught by Legrand after he closes the ventilation shaft. Adil is confronted and taken away. A gunshot is heard.
Under pressure
You are Adil again.
In the cargo bay the next morning, Inch comes by and talks to you. He is not happy. He tells you about the baroness's murder. Mister X is still ready, and Inch should be able to move about freely in the museum as her representative. They are interrupted by the Constable coming to question you. Inch is not happy about Zellner. Dr Gebhardt killed the baroness, clever but not clever enough. He put Zellner on the trail of the doctor, in hope that the doctor will dispose of the detectives. Inch, NO MORE DEATHS!!!! You need to escape and warn Constable Zellner - so it was Adil!
Examine the bars
Look at the blanket. He's worried about Alex. I'm annoyed I didn't get to open the case!

[ 3,500 points (+1,500) ]
You are just in time to save the Constable! You run after the Doctor who is escaping.
Enter the saloon. Nope, not in there.
Go to the side deck
Ghost of the past
Pick any direction. The Doctor runs out and attacks you. You fall, and are hanging off the gangway. Luckily you save yourself.
You go automatically to the forecastle to see the Doctor climbing over the railing. You talk to him. Who did he love? The baroness's sister... Jewish, he hid them (her and her whole family). She was pregnant? He felt betrayed and reported their location, they were burned out! Ask about the murder of the baroness. The baroness tried to help her family escape, but he didn't let the sister escape, he wanted to protect them. The sister sent photos. He reinvented himself after the war. Then he was recognised. He wants to kill himself. Inch interrupts. You stop Inch. No more dead people! Inch points a gun at the doctor. Inch explains how he will convince Legrand that the doctor was The Raven, a means to an end. Let him live! Oops. You still need me! No!! He pushes the doctor into the sea.
Witness
Witness Dr. Gebhardt's end.

A simple plan
Back at the museum. Alex drives by and winks at you :) Inch is waiting by a car and beckons you over. You talk to him. He used the press as a diversion (he's the one that told the papers) to besiege Legrand. Just waiting for the safe and Legrand to leave. Mister X?
